Manufacturing Scholarships ukApplications are invited for a fully-funded three-year studentship in the field of science communication, specifically to study the promotion of the Large Hadron Collider at the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (Cern).

Manufacturing Scholarships Digital media have extended the number of channels that academics and media professionals use to communicate and share information. Digital technologies have the potential to make all stages of the research process more visible in the public sphere, and to audiences that have, on occasion, opportunities for interaction and engagement. But Manufacturing Scholarships digital technologies also are introducing novel demands on academics and media professionals, requiring skills and competencies on the part of those communicating that are encapsulated by the concept of digital scholarship.Manufacturing Scholarships It is therefore significant that, to date, there has been very little research into how the practices of digital scholarship are enacted to promote ‘big science’.

This Manufacturing Scholarships project will explore and evaluate communication associated with the start-up of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) over a six-year period, including communication produced by media professionals and citizen scientists. It is envisaged that the research undertaken within this studentship will contribute to debates about digital scholarship, public engagement and science communication, making valuable contributions to these related fields in terms of both theory and practice.

You should have, or expect to gain, a 2.1 or above in an undergraduate degree or Masters degree in a related subject area (e.g. science communication, media, journalism or communication studies, history, philosophy or sociology of science, or other appropriate discipline).

Overview

DRI announces its annual Law Student Diversity Scholarship program open to incoming second and third-year African American, Hispanic, Asian, Pan Asian and Native American students. Incoming second and third-year female law students are also eligible, regardless of race or ethnicity. Incoming second and third-year law students who also come from backgrounds that would add to the cause of diversity, regardless of race or gender are eligible to apply. Students who are members of the American Association for Justice (AAJ), Law School or Law Student members of AAJ or students otherwise affiliated with or employed by AAJ are not eligible for DRI Law Student Diversity Scholarships.

To qualify for this scholarship, candidate must be a full-time student or evening student who has completed two-thirds or more of the total credit hours requirement for a degree by the applicant’s law school. The goal of these scholarships is to provide financial assistance to two worthy law students from ABA accredited law schools in order to promote, in a tangible way, the DRI Diversity Statement in Principle. See page three of this application for the DRI Diversity Statement.

Two scholarships in the amount of $10,000 each will be awarded to applicants who best meet the following criteria: Demonstrated academic excellence Service to the profession Service to the community Service to the cause of diversity

Applications must include three recommendations, one each from the following individuals:

A) The Dean or an Associate Dean of the student’s law school
B) A current or past law professor
C) An individual who is personally acquainted with the applicant, but who is not related by blood line or adoption.

Additionally, each applicant must include a cover letter with their application. In that cover letter each applicant should identify his or her academic, personal and/or professional accomplishments and how those accomplishments qualify him or her for DRI’s Law Student Diversity Scholarship award.

Essay Requirements

In addition to submitting the attached application and required recommendations, applicants must complete an essay of no more than 1,000 words based upon the following question:

The U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to decide two separate suits in which foreign product manufacturers are contesting the state courts’ exercise of personal jurisdiction over them. The Court will decide, among other things, if a company’s mere awareness that a product could wind up in a state is sufficient to establish personal jurisdiction, or if companies must purposefully direct their products toward a state to warrant the exercise of personal jurisdiction. If the Court concludes that foreign manufacturers can or cannot be sued in any state in which the product is sold, absent direct contacts with the forum, what impact might that ruling have on product liability litigation defense?

Essays must be submitted in hard copy, double-spaced, typed pages with copy on only one side of each page.

Hydropower is the largest source of renewable energy in the world and account for about 20% of the electricity production worldwide. It is facing new technical challenges with the introduction of renewable energy resources, refurbishment of aging machines, adapt to climate changes and meet new regulations.

To deal with these challenges the Swedish power industry together with the authorities and universities started the Swedish Hydropower Centre (SVC). SVC is a competence centre for education and research within the field of hydropower, whose vision is to secure a knowledge and competence supply for Sweden, for an efficient and reliable hydropower production. Luleå University of Technology is an active member of the centre.

Lulea University of Technology (LTU) offers an open position for a PhD candidate in the field of fluid mechanics in an exiting and growing environment using the latest techniques at the Division of Fluid Mechanics being part of the Department of Applied Physics and Mechanical Engineering. The department is a world leading institution within hydropower research in the fields of fluid mechanics, rotor-dynamics and tribology. It has access to world unique facilities such as generic models, full-scale hydropower machines and corresponding models, computer cluster and advanced measuring techniques.

Project description

The project is essentially experimental and related to pressure measurement technique.

The project aims firstly to investigate rotor-stator interaction in axial machines of Kaplan type. Detailed unsteady pressure measurements will be performed on a Kaplan model at Vattenfall Research and Development, Älvkarleby, Sweden. Fluid conditions at and outside the energy efficient operation point are of interest.

The second part of the project aims to develop flow measurements technique for low head machines. Pressure time or/and hybrid ultrasound/Winter-Kennedy method(s) may be used. Experiments will be supported by numerical investigations.

The project implies close collaboration with Chalmers, Andritz and Vattenfall in Sweden but also the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Norway and University of Tehran, Iran.

Qualifications

Applicants should have an MSc/civ.ing degree within mechanical engineering or applied physics or equivalent. Previous experience in computational and/or experimental fluid mechanics is a merit.

Since male students are traditionally more numerous in this field of studies, female candidates are especially encouraged to apply. The position requires skills in written and spoken English but knowledge about French and/or Swedish is a merit, since our industrial and academic partners are from France, Switzerland, Canada, Sweden, and Norway.

The newly formed International Max Planck Research School (IMPRS) for Neural Circuits is located at the Max Planck Institute for Brain Research in Frankfurt. The IMPRS faculty are Frankfurt Neuroscientists from the Max Planck Institutes for Brain Research and for Biophysics, the Goethe University and the university clinic, the Frankfurt Institute for Advanced Studies and the newly established Ernst Strüngmann Institute.

Project description

The focus of the IMPRS for Neural Circuits will be the understanding of neural circuits (from the simple to the large and complex), at all scales required to achieve this understanding. This ambitious objective will require analysis at the molecular, cellular, multi-cellular, network and behavioral levels, with the full understanding that macroscopic phenomena (spatial patterns, dynamics) can be scale-dependent, and that reductionism is not always sufficient as a method.

Master Scholarship Data mining and Knowledge Management (DMKM) at Erasmus Mundus Scholarships

The primary social and economic value of modern societies is knowledge. For this reason, mastering Information technology for structured or unstructured information recorded in Datawarehouses, such as the Web, and containing dormant knowledge is essential to the development of both individual and society.

Data mining and knowledge management (DMKM) has become essential for improving the competitiveness of businesses and increasing access to knowledge. DMKM still comes up, however, against major scientific and technological obstacles. This EM MC’s degree in DMKM proposes specialized training in this field.

The consortium is composed of six universities among four countries: France (University of Pierre and Marie Curie Paris 6, University of Lyon Lumière Lyon 2, Polytec’Nantes), Romania (University Polithenica of Bucharest), Italy (University of East Piedmont) and Spain (Technical University of Catalonia). The Master in DMKM is based on experience in multi-site teaching gained from the Master’s degree in Knowledge Extraction from Data, which has been running since 1999 within three members of the consortium.

Admission criteria:

The first semester is devoted to basic training and includes subjects in mathematics, statistics, databases, etc., whereas the two following ones are devoted to acquire two specialties among six ones, such as Complex Data Mining, Information retrieval, Knowledge acquisition and management, etc. The fourth semester is targeted to the writing of a dissertation in either a laboratory or a company. Language classes will also be provided to ensure that students integrate as well as possible in socio-cultural terms in the host country. Each student must spend (6-12) months in at least two of the four countries.

Students that have obtained 120 ECTS will automatically obtain national Master degrees from the countries in which they have studied. Classes are transmitted via video-conferencing. They are also recorded and accessible online. Students can benefit, on their site of residence, from support in the form of tutoring for each course. PhD researchers Paleoclimatology, Utrecht University

Currently, we seek to fill four PhD-research positions within the Paleoclimatology group, which make part of a NWO-funded Vici program – entitled ”Evolution of astronomically paced climate changes from Greenhouse to Icehouse world” – granted to Dr. Lucas Lourens. The Vici program aims to detect the non-linear response mechanisms within the global climate system to astronomical forcing using an integrated data-modeling comparison approach applied to four key intervals, which experienced different background pCO2 concentrations. These intervals comprise: (1) the onset of major Northern Hemisphere glaciations (~3 Ma) when pCO2 values declined below pre-industrial (~280 p.p.m.v.) values, (2) the mid-Pleistocene transition when dominant obliquity-paced glacial cycles culminated into a ~100-kyr rhythm, (3) the evolution of the Antarctic ice sheets from the Oligocene to the mid-Miocene (~25-12 Ma) when background pCO2 values were still well above pre-industrial values, and (4) the warmest period of the Cenozoic (~55-50 Ma), when pCO2 reached values of more than four times the present-day (~385 p.p.m.v.) value. The Vici program involves scientists (including two postdoctoral fellows) at Utrecht University, the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI), and various European and US research groups. Final year students, young researchers and other prospective PhD candidates are herewith invited to submit project proposals in the areas of Law of the Sea and Human Rights (environmental law) and International Trade and Foreign Direct Investment (economics) as they relate to European Studies.

Research projects need to be in line with the IES research strategy that focuses on the EU as an international actor.

The University provides a University Postgraduate Award International Students (UPAIS) or a University International Stipend (UIS) living allowance scholarship of $A22,500 per annum (in 2010, to be confirmed by DEEWR) for successful IPRS and SIRF applicants and an allowance for thesis production costs. Travel and relocation costs are the responsibility of the applicant.

UWA Safety Net Top-Up Scholarships for IPRS awardees

UWA Safety Net Top-Up Scholarships valued at $3,500pa for 2010 were awarded to successful IPRS applicants without other Top-Ups of $10,000pa or more. The UWA Top-Ups were introduced as a temporary measure to raise the minimum postgraduate scholarship to at least $25,000 pa due to the Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) rate not being raised for 2009. The UPA(IS) and the UIS International living allowance stipends are set at the same stipend as the APA rate. The combined value of the UPA(IS) and Top-Up stipend is $26,000pa in 2010. The final Safety Net Top-Up annual stipend rate will be determined when the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations confirms the 2010 APA rate in December 2009.

Please note that the award and value of the UWA Safety Net Top-Up stipend for each year is wholly within the discretion of the Scholarships Committee. The Committee will take various factors into consideration, especially the value of the APA stipend set by the Australian Federal Government. It will be reviewed annually and the annual value may be varied up or down in subsequent years from the amount initially quoted in the year of commencement.

In the recent Federal Budget it was announced that the APA stipend will be increased to $22,500pa for 2010, and the Scholarships Committee will reduce the Top-Up for 2010 to $3500pa in the light of the APA increase. The UPA(IS) will be increased to $22,500pa for 2010 in line with the APA increase. The combined total UPA(IS) plus UWA Top-Up living allowance stipend will be $26,000pa for 2010. The UWA Top-Up stipend for 2011 and later years will be subject to change and may be further reduced if there are future increases to the APA and UPA(IS) stipends.

SIRF Safety Net Top-Up Scholarships for SIRF awardees

SIRF Top-Up Scholarships valued at the same rate as the UWA Safety Net Top-Ups ($3,500pa for 2010) were awarded to successful SIRF applicants. SIRF Top-Ups are funded by the applicants’ School and/or Faculty, and paid in conjunction with the University International Stipend (UIS) living allowance scholarship. The combined value of the UIS and SIRF Safety Net Top-Up stipend is $26,000pa in 2010. SIRF Safety Net Top-Up scholarships are not available to students in receipt of a SIRF scholarship only and who have not been awarded a UIS living allowance scholarship. They are also only automatically available to SIRF scholarship holders whose scholarships commence from 1 January 2010.

SIRF Safety Net Top-Up Scholarships will be reduced to $3500pa for 2010, in line with the reduction of the UWA Safety Net Top-Ups and the increase to the UPA(IS) and UIS stipends to $22,500pa for 2010. The combined total UIS plus SIRF Top-Up living allowance stipend will be $26,000pa for 2010. The SIRF Safety Net Top-Up stipend for 2011 and later years will be subject to change and may be further reduced if there are future increases to the UIS and UPA(IS) stipends.

Eligibility Criteria for IPRS and SIRF Scholarships awarded by UWA

IPRS and SIRF Scholarships will only be available to those applicants who:

• Have completed a four year undergraduate degree at first-class honours level or equivalent. An applicant may be disadvantaged if the Scholarships Committee cannot make a comparison with The University of Western Australia's standards, particularly in relation to the class of Honours achieved, ie first or second class Honours;

• Intend to enrol as a full-time candidate for a Master's degree by research or a PhD degree;

• Will be commencing their course in the semester following the scholarship round in which they have successfully applied;

• Provide evidence of achieving English language proficiency to the following standards:

•IELTS SCORE OF 6.5, with speaking and listening no less than 6.0, and with reading and writing no less than 6.5;
•Paper-based TOEFL score of 580 or above (Computer-based TOEFL test is not acceptable) with a Test of Spoken English score of 45 and a TWE (Test of Written English) of 4.5;

Applications for International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (IPRS), Scholarships for International Research Fees (SIRF) and Indian SIRF Scholarships will open from Friday 18 June 2010 and close on Friday 13 August 2010. These scholarships are for study in Semester 1, 2011.

China SIRF Scholarship applications 2011 first round applications will open on Monday 23 August 2010 and will close on Friday 15 October 2010. These are for study in 2011.

Ambassador Schoalrship Nomination Scheme, Nyenrode Business University 2010

The Nyenrode Business University has offered scholarships, under its ‘Ambassador Scholarship Nomination Scheme’, for I-MBA program. The applications will be routed through Higher Education Commission.

Eligibility Criteria

Only those applicants are eligible to apply who have their Bachelors or Masters degree completed. Those who are result awaiting or not having Bachelors or Masters degree are not eligible to apply.

Admissions criteria

A strong application to the program will include, as part of their application package, the following:

Two letters of reference (using the referee formin the application form)
A GMAT score report indicating a strong result *
An original TOEFL or IELTS score report indicating scores of at least 100 (TOEFL) or overall band 6.5 (IELTS)
Certified copies of diplomas and academic transcripts demonstrating excellent results
An updated curriculum vitae outlining at least three years of work experience
GMAT Test

The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is a computerized examination created and administered by the Educational Testing Service on behalf of the Graduate Management Admission Council. It is required by virtually every quality business school in the world. The GMAT measures language, writing skills and quantitative abilities and is intended to indicate a person’s potential as a participant of an MBA program. It is advisable to schedule the GMAT test early on at www.mba.com. Due to high testing volume, some test sites may not be able to offer you a test date immediately.

Your GMAT results will be sent to Nyenrode directly if you reference our Institutional Code "W21-2K-17" at the time of writing the test.

Note that a strong application to the program will include a score report indicating a score of at least 650.

* Submit your complete application package including your GMAT score report indicating a score of 700 or higher by the final application deadline, and we will waive our 80 Euro application fee.

Language Tests

Since our International MBA is taught in English, non-native English speaking candidates or candidates that did not undertake their previous degree in English need to demonstrate proficiency in the English language.

Note that a strong application to the program will include an original score report indicating a score of at least:

TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
Internet-based – 100 or higher
Computer-based – 250 or higher

The deadlines that apply to you will be dependent upon whether or not you require a study visa for The Netherlands. You can confirm whether or not you will require a study visa for The Netherlands through the Nuffic website here.

Candidate profile

- Internationally minded and eager to grow
- Minimum three years working experience
- Bachelor or Master degree
- Fluency in both oral and written English
- A satisfactory GMAT score i.e., not less than 700.

2. Attach all the requisite documents as mentioned above only with IMBA Application form.

3. Do not attach any thing with HEC Application form.

4. The applications with which GMAT Score, IELTS/TOEFL score, Academic DMCs / Transcripts / marks sheets and experience certificates are

not attached will not be entertained.

5. The applications which are not properly arranged / tied up / stapled / pinned up will not be considered.

Students Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS) and Local Education Authorities (LEA)

Applicants resident in Scotland on the relevant dates may apply for tuition fee and maintenance support for certain courses that are supported by the SAAS. Only the Diploma version of any course is supported. Not all courses are supported for all students but some courses have a small number of places that are filled on nomination by the Course Director.

For non-UK European Union residents applying to undertake the Diploma version of the same courses tuition fees may also be payable from SAAS. In these cases no maintenance payments will be made.

Some LEAs in England and Wales also offer grants for vocational courses. These grants are means tested and applications should be made to the LEA from which any undergraduate award was obtained.

Students from Northern Ireland should contact their relevant Education and Library Board for details of awards available to them. Students normally resident in the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands should contact their relevant Education Departments.
